Principal's Message
Hello Teston Village PS families,
The first week of October was a successful one. The school reorganization has been completed. We are thankful for the smooth transition of students and staff that occurred on Monday. The month of October is always busy, and the routines of classroom assignments, projects, and homework have begun. Below you will find a recap of events that happened this week and upcoming events.
This week was National Custodial Workers Day, and we wanted to share a special thank you to our caretaking staff. Every day, our team (Nicole, Pino, and Bill) works to keep our school clean and well maintained. Thank you for everything that you do to support our school!
Monday, October 5th, is World Teacher's Day! We would like to recognize the efforts and contributions of our TVPS teachers. Thank you for the work that you do every day to support student achievement and well-being. You bring laughter, joy, compassion, and kindness into your classrooms, and we are all so appreciative that you make our school the best place to be! I invite you to watch this video highlighting appreciation for our teachers made by the YRDSB media team.
Celebrating Islamic Heritage Month
Join the York Region District School Board in celebrating Islamic Heritage Month this October. This celebration is all about fostering equity, inclusion, and community engagement while building a deeper understanding of our diverse society.
October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month
Each week in October we will share a new safety tip. If your child is using the primary account on their device, parental safeguards may be easier to bypass than you think. Check that they're set up under a family account with app download approvals and Screen Time or Family Link enabled. Read: Who Controls Your Child’s Device?
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend and another great week ahead!
Sincerely,
Ms. S. Mediratta

SAFETY WEEK continues
This week we had our first practice fire drill.
This week we also completed our Caring and Safe Schools presentations.
Next week, we will practice various safety drills, including lockdown drills, hold and secure drills, and the newly established Bomb Threat Drill. It is critical that all members of our school community become familiar with emergency protocols, as they are designed to keep all of us safe at school. Please refer to Board Policy #669.0 for more information about emergency preparedness and crisis management.
Reminder - Lunch Hour expectations
** Disposable drink cups NOT allowed.
Drink cups that are from fast food locations or paper/disposable cups with a plastic lid or drinks that are without a closed lid will be held in the office. This is to prevent spilling large sugary drinks in the classroom. Students can pick it up at the end of the day to take it home.
End of day, picking up your kids.
We are kindly asking that families make an effort to consider picking up their children after the school day is over and avoid early pickup between 2:00 and 2:35pm. It is so important that we are not constantly calling into classrooms and looking to pull children out of class if it can be avoided. We will be reviewing how we can safely support our bus lines and manage the growing number of students who continuously are signed out early at the end of the day.
Cobs Bread Support for TVPS.
@cobsbreadmackenzieglen has provided our community with fresh bread and baked goods items for the last three years. We have been sending home bagged items to ensure we share items with as many families as possible. If your family could use the support from the distribution of bread, please let Ms. Ghumman (office secretary) know, and we would be happy to support your request as much as possible. We are grateful for their generosity and for the staff who volunteer their time to pick up items from the bakery every 2 weeks to make this initiative possible.

It is very important to us to be able to communicate with you. The school wants to work in partnership with you to ensure the health and well-being of your child, as well as their academic progress. Each teacher will let you know how they would like to communicate with you:

We are looking for volunteers!
If you are interested in being a school volunteer, contact the main office and speak with Ms. DiRoma. A vulnerable sector check from the YRP is needed and is valid for the school. This is a great way to be involved in the school, to help out, and to join classes on a school trip or special event.
