Orange Shirt Day is on Wednesday.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation will be observed on September 30th in Canada. It is a solemn occasion dedicated to acknowledging the historical and ongoing injustices faced by First Nations, Métis and Inuit. It serves as a vital step towards reconciliation and understanding, providing an opportunity to learn about the painful legacy of residential schools and the enduring trauma experienced by Indigenous communities. Schools across the country also recognize Orange Shirt Day, which specifically remembers the story of Phyllis Webstad, a survivor of the residential school system, who had her new orange shirt taken away on her first day at school. Please wear an Orange shirt on Wednesday for Orange Shirt Day.

PIZZA LUNCH starts this THURSDAY!

The deadline to order pizza has passed. .This lunch is a fundraiser at our school, which goes towards the purchase of technology and to support the Grade 8 graduation.

Reminder - Lunch Hour expectations

** Disposable drink cups NOT allowed.

Drink cups that are from fast food locations or paper/disposable cups with a plastic lid or drinks that are without a closed lid will be held in the office. -- This is to prevent spilling large sugary drinks in the classroom. Students can pick it up at the end of the day to take it home.

End of day, picking up your kids.

We are kindly asking that families make an effort to consider picking up their children after the school day is over and avoid early pickup between 2:00 and 2:35pm. It is so important that we are not constantly calling into classrooms and looking to pull children out ofclass if it can be avoided. We will be reviewing how we can safely support our bus lines and manage the growing number of students who continuously are signed out early at the end of the day.

Caring and Safe Schools Start-Up Presentations

As the new school year is beginning, students will be attending Caring and Safe Schools Start-Up Presentations. These presentations are designed to underscore behaviour expectations as we create a caring, safe and inclusive school environment. As families are critical partners, please continue discussions about school safety at home by asking your child what they have learned in the Caring and Safe Schools presentations.

Presentation topics include:

  • Racism;

  • Bullying;

  • Progressive discipline;

  • Personal mobile devices such as cell phones, smart watches, and tablets;

  • Vaping for grades 7 & 8; and

  • Standing up for each other, including methods of reporting incidents of racism, discrimination, and bullying.

SAFETY WEEK will take place over the course of 2 weeks.
  • This week we will have our first practice Fire Drill.

  • This week we will also have our school-wide Caring and Safe Schools presentations.

Next week, we will practise various safety drills, including Fire Drills, Lockdown Drills, Hold and Secure Drills and the newly established Bomb Threat Drill. It is critical that all members of our school community become familiar with emergency protocols as they are designed to keep all of us safe at school. Please refer to Board Policy #669.0 for more information about Emergency Preparedness and Crisis Management.

Cobs Bread Support for TVPS.

@cobsbreadmackenzieglen has provided our community with fresh bread and baked goods items for the last three years. We have been sending home bagged items to ensure we share items with as many families as possible. If your family could use the support from the distribution of bread, please let Ms. Ghumman (office secretary) know, and we would be happy to support your request as much as possible. We are grateful for their generosity and for the staff who volunteer their time to pick up items from the bakery every 2 weeks to make this initiative possible.

We are looking for volunteers!

If you are interested in being a school volunteer, contact the main office and speak with Ms. DiRoma. A vulnerable sector check from the YRP is needed and is valid for the school. This is a great way to be involved in the school, to help out, and to join classes on a school trip or special event.
