Principal's Message
Dear Teston Village PS Families,
What a wonderful week it has been at Teston Village!
Congratulations on a fantastic Jump Rope for Heart event and fundraiser.
Thank you to Ms. Haniff for taking the lead on organizing our day of fitness, fun, and community on May 28th. There are many volunteers and lots of support that went into planning and organizing for this event to take place. Throughout the day, students were outdoors and enjoyed time with chalk, bubbles, and skipping! It is so important for students to find ways to be physically active, disconnect, and enjoy the outdoors, and today was a reflection of that. We are also so grateful to YOU, the community, who came together to raise money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. We are happy to share that our community, once again, raised $1000.00 for such a worthy cause! Congratulations on your combined efforts, and thank you for your outpouring of support.
EQAO Continues
Our Grade 6 students have successfully finished EQAO and next week our Grade 3 students will begin their assessment. For students participating, we encourage families to focus on the basics: a good night's sleep, a healthy breakfast, arriving on time, and coming to school ready to do their best. There is no need to study. We simply want students to approach the assessment with confidence and a positive mindset.
Swim to Survive - For Grade 3 and 7 -- waiting for permission forms to be returned
how to ROLL, TREAD, and SWIM with clothes on to better simulate a real-life fall into water
how to use TALK, REACH, THROW strategies to safely help someone in deep water without putting themselves at risk
Vellore Village Community Centre on June 10, 12, and 17. Pool time and buses are confirmed.
The Swim to Survive program is designed specifically to encourage confidence for students when they are around lakes, the swimming pool or even a beach. The focus is not on learning swimming strokes or being a strong swimmer, but rather on developing basic water survival skills that could help keep children safe around water. The instructors are experienced in working with students of varying comfort levels and abilities, and students are supported throughout the lessons.
Finalists are moving on to compete in Track and Field.
Thank you to Mr. Chan for his support to ensure forms were ready and that staff were available to take our students. Thank you to Mrs. Ghumman for her help to ensure buses have booked. Good luck to those students who qualified to move on to the area competition at Emily Carr next week. We have two very large groups of students who qualified to attend the Area Tournament. We hope our athletes enjoy the competition and represent our school with pride at Emily Carr SS.
Students who attend T&F day are reminded to pack extra snacks and a water bottle and dress for the weather. Food will be on sale at the event. All the best, Tornadoes!!!

Pride Month
Join us on Monday, June 1st, at 9:45am as we raise our pride flag at Teston Village.
Our school will participate and meet outside the flagpole to affirm that we are an inclusive school where we all belong and are valued. June is Pride Month, an opportunity for schools to celebrate diversity in our communities and uplift the voices, accomplishments, and activism of 2SLGBTQIA+ people. While diverse identities and ways of being have always existed, much of the world has specifically celebrated Pride Month in June since 1969. YRDSB is unwavering in its ongoing commitment to providing identity-affirming education in all schools, recognizing that 2SLGBTQIA+ students, families, and allies are in every classroom. It is the expectation of the York Region District School Board that 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusive and affirming education is taking place year-round in all classes to ensure all students learn about gender identity, homophobia, and transphobia, as well as the contributions and lives of 2SLGBTQIA+ people.
The Brainable Workshop is coming to Teston for students in Grade 5.
How to maintain brain health through physical exercise, healthy eating, mental exercise, quality sleep, social interactions, and stress management.
The risks posed by excessive social media use, untreated mental health issues, substance abuse and head injuries
During the presentation, students will engage in interactive activities that encourage them to reflect on how they can apply these brain-boosting practices in their everyday lives. Each student will be going home with a parent tip guide to support brain health at home and a stress-relief pen!

On Thursday, June 25, 2026
All schools in the York Region District School Board are committed to improving student achievement and well-being.
Early Dismissal - last day of school - Thursday, June 25th
Release day will take place to allow elementary staff to take part in meetings during the afternoon of that day. These meetings will allow school staff to engage in culminating activities regarding the review and revision of the School’s Improvement Plan, as well as year-end and transition activities that support student success.
As has been our practice in the past, students will attend school on the morning of Thursday, June 25, 2026, only. Students will be dismissed early that day at 11:35am. Arrangements will be made to ensure that students who are normally bused to and from school will receive transportation at this time. Families whose children attend after-school child care should make appropriate arrangements to address this change in schedule.
E-Scooters and E-Bike Safety
YRDSB continues to encourage families to use safe transportation to and from school. We encourage students to use active school travel whenever possible. Active travel refers to any form of human-powered transportation, including walking, cycling, rollerblading, skateboarding, and scootering.
School Property
Students using any transportation device, whether electronic or not-electronic, must dismount before arriving on school property. This includes all sidewalks, pathways, and walkways on school grounds. Please note that the school is not responsible for lost or damaged equipment.
Provincial Regulations
These modes of travel offer many physical, mental, and community benefits. Please visit the Ontario website for a full list of regulations. Every cyclist under 18 must wear a properly fitting bike helmet. Some students may also choose to use electronically assisted devices, such as e‑scooters or e‑bikes. In Ontario, you must be 16 or older to ride an e-scooter or e-bike. When riding e‑scooters or e‑bikes, it is important that students follow all applicable municipal regulations to ensure their safety and the safety of others.
Municipal Regulations
Before riding any device, it is important for students and families to be aware of the regulations set by their local municipality. These may include minimum age requirements for operating electric devices, helmet laws, and other safety guidelines.
Respectful Riding
Pedestrians always have the right of way. Students are expected to ride with caution by slowing down, using a bell when approaching others, and passing on the left. Wearing reflective clothing is encouraged to increase visibility and promote safer travel.

Thank you for your cooperation.
