Welcome back to our returning Tornado families, and a special welcome to our new families. We hope everyone had a wonderful summer! We encourage you to visit our school website regularly, where we will post our newsletter to keep you informed.

Our office team is always here to help out, and we are excited to welcome Ms. Josie DiRoma, our school secretary, to the team. She will be with us on Thursdays, Fridays, and alternating Wednesdays. Ms. Sadia Ghumman continues in her role as the Elementary Office Administrative Assistant.

PIZZA LUNCH is back!
We will send home information to set up lunch on Thursday from October to December. We hope you will buy pizza and support our school fundraiser. The money raised goes directly back to your children to purchase items and supplies to use in the school.

We Are Looking for Volunteers!
If you are interested in being a school volunteer, contact the main office and speak with Ms. DiRoma. A vulnerable sector check from the YRP is needed and is valid for the school. This is a great way to be involved in the school, to help out, and to join classes on a school trip or special event.

Our first meeting will be on Thursday, September 24th at 6:30pm
Parents are encouraged to participate in the events that take place during the school year. We would like to work alongside parents to:
Plan events based on the needs presented through school data
To fundraise to support the improvement of learning and belonging
Attend a workshop or guest speaker event
Support and promote family engagement
Please JOIN the School Council. Meetings are held 4 or 5 times a year, at school.

Caring and Safe Schools Start-Up Presentations
As the new school year is beginning, students will be attending Caring and Safe Schools Start-Up Presentations. These presentations are designed to underscore behaviour expectations as we create a caring, safe and inclusive school environment. As families are critical partners, please continue discussions about school safety at home by asking your child what they have learned in the Start-Up Presentation.
Presentation topics include:
Racism;
Bullying;
Progressive discipline;
Personal mobile devices such as cell phones, smart watches, and tablets;
Vaping for grades 7 & 8; and
Standing up for each other, including methods of reporting incidents of racism, discrimination, and bullying.

Cycling or Rolling to School
Students who use bicycles, rollerblades, skateboards or scooters to travel to school:
must wear a helmet;
must dismount before arriving on school property and walk them while on school property, whether electronic or not-electronic, including all sidewalks, pathways, and walkways on school grounds;
should lock bicycles on the bike rack, and store rollerblades, skateboards or scooters in their locker, backpack or school designated area; the school is not responsible for any lost or damaged personal items;
are reminded that walk and roll shoes, skateboards are not allowed on school property/in the school.

All parents, guardians and caregivers are welcome to join this free training program!
To become a GIVE participant, please register for one of the training sessions below.
Participants must attend all five training days (Monday through Friday) and complete 20 hours of volunteer service at a school of their choice. Indigenous Languages and International Languages (ILIL)
Registration for the Indigenous Languages and International Languages (ILIL) 2026-2027 program year is now open. Classes for students in SK to Grade 8 will be held in person or online. Registration deadline for the full program is Monday, September 14, 2026 (students can still register after this date, starting on Tuesday, October 6, 2026).
