Principal's Message
Hello Teston Village PS families,
Thank you for another wonderful week at TVPS! It’s hard to believe how quickly September has flown by.
Our character trait for October is responsibility. At TVPS, we strive to be accountable for our actions and to follow through on our commitments. At home, we encourage you to have conversations with your child about the responsibilities they have both at school and at home. Do they help with chores? What commitments are they taking on in their learning? October is always a busy month as routines become established and classroom assignments, projects, and homework get underway. We’re also excited that some of our clubs and teams are up and running! We love that the Homework Helper Club has some members working after school 3 days a week in the library! As the year goes on, even more opportunities for students to join teams and clubs will be available.
Orange Shirt Day was on Tuesday, September 30th. This is a day for Canadians to observe both Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day is a chance to learn about the history and lasting impact of residential schools, which were institutions created to assimilate Indigenous children, erase their cultures, and perpetrate the genocide of Indigenous Peoples. The day also honours the story of residential school survivor Phyllis Webstad, a member of the Stswecem'c Xgat'tem First Nation, survivor of the residential school system, and the founder of Orange Shirt Day. Thank you to all of our students and staff who wore an orange shirt to school.
To our community members and staff who commemorated Yom Kippur, we hope you had a meaningful fast and a wonderful celebration with loved ones. Yom Kippur completes what is commonly referred to as the High Holy Days. Please see our school board video message to mark this important day.
This week was National Custodial Workers Day, and we wanted to share a special thank you to our caretaking staff. Every day, our dedicated team (Nicole, Pino, and Bill) works to keep our school clean and well maintained. Thank you for everything that you do to support our school!
Sunday, October 5th, is World Teacher's Day! We would like to recognize the efforts and contributions of our TVPS teachers. Thank you for the work that you do every day to support student achievement and well-being. You bring laughter, joy, compassion, and kindness into your classrooms, and we are all so appreciative that you make our school the best place to be! I invite you to watch this video highlighting appreciation for our teachers made by the YRDSB media team.

Making the Invisible, Visible: October is Learning Disabilities (LD) Awareness Month
Learning Disabilities (LD) Awareness Month is recognized during the month of October. Learning Disabilities Awareness Month is a time to break stigma, highlight strengths, and build inclusion for people with learning disabilities (LDs) and ADHD. Awareness alone is not enough; together we can ensure every person has the right to learn and the power to achieve.
Did You Know…?
At least 1 in 10 Canadians has a learning disability — making LDs the most common disability in schools. ADHD frequently co-occurs, underscoring the need for integrated supports across education, mental health, and community services. (Statistics Canada, 2024).
What is a learning disability?
Learning disabilities affect how people take in, process, or use information. They are brain-based differences, not a reflection of intelligence or effort — and with the right support, individuals with LDs can achieve at the same level of success as their peers.
What is ADHD?
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a brain-based condition that affects attention, self-regulation, and impulse control. People with ADHD may find it harder to focus, stay organized, or manage time — but these challenges are not due to lack of ability or effort. With understanding and the right support, individuals with ADHD can thrive in school, work, and daily life.
The Learning Disabilities Association of Ontario (LDAO) has launched their LD Awareness Month campaign with a focus on four key messages:
When we remove barriers, students with learning disabilities show their true abilities.
Students with LDs and ADHD have unique minds and remarkable potential.
Break the stigma — focus on abilities!
Inclusion works when students with learning disabilities get the support they need.
Please see this video from LDAYS that highlights the launch of this campaign!
Free! Virtual Tenant Rights Workshops - Parents/Guardians are invited
