TVPS Update Week #32 - Friday, April 24th, 2026

Principal's Message

Dear Teston Village PS Families,

This week continued to be busy and full of great moments across our school community.

Administrative Assistant Day, April 22

On Wednesday, we celebrated Mrs. Ghumman and Mrs. Lupo in our main office. This amazing team is often the first people students, families, and community members meet when they walk through our doors; administrative professionals play an essential role in keeping our school running smoothly each day. Thank you for the “magic ice” that helps soothe bumps and bruises, for the bandages that support our students, and for the patience and care you show to everyone who walks through the office. We are so grateful for all that you do

Volleyball Showdown Comes to an End!

Our volleyball season has wrapped up, with another win for Mr. Chan’s team but with a very close final score between both teams. While there were no special guest players this week, the energy and enthusiasm remained high. Thank you to all of our families who supported this fundraiser by sending in a $1.00 donation. Together, we raised $400 in support of our grade 8 graduates while building school spirit, staying active, and having fun. The nets are now down, and we look forward to bringing the excitement back next year!

Earth Day should be every day!

April is Earth Month, and this week our students took part in activities to help care for our school environment. We are proud of the effort shown during our school cleanup and hope our grounds remain just as beautiful.

Families can find simple ways at home to help care for the planet by encouraging simple habits such as

  • Using garbage and recycling bins when outdoors in a park or in the neighbourhood

  • Choosing reusable containers and water bottles

  • Reducing waste where possible with less plastic and take out containers and bags

By making thoughtful choices, we help children build lifelong habits that support a healthier planet.

Recess Expectations and Field Conditions

Our school grounds remain very wet due to seasonal conditions. We will continue to monitor the fields and hope to reopen them after a few consecutive dry days. If used too early, the fields can become damaged and may require longer closures. In the meantime, we will continue to have some “tarmac-only, no equipment” days to ensure student safety and protect our outdoor spaces.

Lates and absences are an ongoing concern.

We continue to see a number of late arrivals and absences. In the coming week, some families will receive a letter from the main office regarding their child’s late arrivals.

The school day begins at 8:15 a.m., with doors opening at 8:00 a.m. Arriving on time is important because:

  • Students often miss key instruction (especially in Math and Language)

  • It can be difficult to catch up on missed learning

  • It helps build strong habits and routines for future success

Late arrivals and early pick-ups can also disrupt learning for the entire class. If there is anything we can do to support your family, please reach out.

Primary/Junior performance was a success!

This week, our younger students had the opportunity to attend a special performance exploring East Asian heritage from the Tang Dynasty, diving into some cultural learning. The performance was organized through the KITS program at the Aurora Cultural Arts Center. Our students were a wonderful audience, engaged, respectful, and curious throughout the presentation. We also appreciated the many families who were able to join us for this event. Thank you for being part of these meaningful learning experiences that help bring history and culture to life for our students.

Jump Rope for Heart

Our annual Jump Rope for Heart event is back! This important fundraiser supports the Heart and Stroke Foundation. More information will be shared soon about goals, prizes, and our event day.

*** We are also looking for a few parent volunteers to support us on the day of the event. If you are interested, please contact the main office.

Children’s Mental Health Week - May 4th - 8th

Each year, Ontarians mark the first full week of May as Children's Mental Health Week.  As we move through the school year's remaining months, we pause to acknowledge the many realities that impact our day-to-day experiences and mental health. We acknowledge that many feel tired and busy, among other feelings. These realities, thoughts and feelings are valid and important. As such, this resource has been carefully created to complement existing routines and at-home wellness practices. We have collaborated with the York Region Public Health Healthy Schools team to create a resource that we hope will create opportunities for joy and wellness. Be sure to also check out our Student Mental Health and Addictions Newsletter for additional resources.

Thank you for your continued support, and we wish you a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,
Ms. S. Mediratta
