TVPS Update Week #30 - Thursday, April 10th, 2026

Principal's Message

Dear Teston Village PS Families,

As we continue through the spring season, we would like to share a few important updates from this week.

At this time of year, schools across YRDSB are asked to keep students off the grass fields. Your child may have mentioned that we are having “tarmac-only recess.” This means students are staying on the pavement so the grass can grow back strong and healthy for the spring and summer months. Using the field too early can cause damage that takes time to repair.

With many students sharing the pavement space, equipment and balls are not permitted during recess at this time, as they can create safety concerns. We kindly ask families not to send balls to school for the next few weeks. This will help us keep everyone safe and avoid having to store items in the office during the day.

On Thursday, we held our first spring fire drill. Students were prepared in advance and reviewed how to exit and re-enter the building safely. Classes practised important steps such as turning off lights, closing doors, and taking attendance to ensure all students are accounted for. We will complete two more drills before the end of the school year.

Looking ahead, we are excited for the volleyball re-match taking place next Thursday. Both teams are ready for another exciting game! Students are invited to bring a $1.00 donation and enjoy the game from the gym as we continue to support our Grade 8 graduation fundraiser.

From last week and into next week, we have had several Diamond Days across YRDSB to recognize Easter, Orthodox Easter, Vaisakhi, and Passover. To all staff and community members who celebrate Pesach/Passover, Easter, and/or Vaisakhi, we extend our warmest wishes to you and your families. To help deepen understanding and honour these important observances, YRDSB has created a series of short videos. We encourage families to take a moment to explore these learning opportunities together.

Thank you for your continued support, and we wish you a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,
Ms. S. Mediratta

This is a unique, multidisciplinary event featuring the Toronto Symphony Orchestra alongside Red Sky Performance, an award-winning Indigenous contemporary arts company. The production is a live retelling of the novel She Holds Up the Stars, led by the book’s author, Sandra Laronde.

Thank you to Mr. Mckay for organizing this wonderful opportunity!

The BIG Crunch - April 17th

We are pleased to share that Teston Village is organizing "The Great Big Crunch", a Canada-wide movement dedicated to celebrating nourishing food at school. The more noise we make crunching, the better! On Friday, April 17, 2026, students, teachers, families, and community members will crunch into apples or other fruits and vegetables together to make some noise in support of school food programs. We will take our first bite simultaneously at 9:40am! The Great Big Crunch is a fun and meaningful way to promote healthy eating while raising awareness about the importance of accessible, nutritious food for all students.

Donation of 5 Basketballs to TVPS

A week ago, members of the York Region Police stopped by Teston Village to donate several basketballs to our school. This opportunity for the YRP to give back to our community by way of this donation is appreciated. We look forward to warmer days ahead of us where students can use the new equipment during morning and lunch recess.

Morning Drop off/Pick up:

The school day begins at 8:15AM and doors open at 8:00AM

We want to ensure a smooth and productive learning environment for all our students. Please help us by ensuring your child arrives at school on time, as our school day begins promptly at 8:15 am. Late arrivals and early pickups from school can unfortunately disrupt the learning process for the entire class.

Lunches: Please consider allergies in our school and fast food.

We also kindly request that families consider sending fewer fast food lunches due to the prevalence of food allergies in our school community. Many restaurants have the risk of the food presenting safety concerns for other students. Your consideration in these matters is greatly appreciated as we work together to create the best possible learning experience for your children.
