TVPS Update Week #28 - Friday, March 27th

Principal's Message

Hello Teston Village PS Families,

Welcome back! We hope everyone had a wonderful mid-winter break. It was so nice to see students return to their classrooms and quickly settle back into their routines. As we look ahead, the next few weeks will be busy with many activities and events across the school.

To begin, a sincere thank you to Ms. Reid for organizing another successful book fair and to our families for your support. Your purchases not only help bring new books and resources into our school but also support a love of reading at home.

With the arrival of milder weather, it certainly feels like spring is in the air. However, this also brings wet and muddy conditions on our school grounds. As a result, our fields will be closed for the next few weeks to ensure student safety and to allow the grass to recover. Over the past several days, we have seen an increase in slips and falls due to the muddy conditions. Students will be reminded to remain on paved areas, wear appropriate footwear such as rain boots, and engage in safe play with their peers.

While the field is closed, soccer and football are not permitted on the pavement. The school will not be providing soccer balls for recess, and any balls brought from home will be held in the office until the end of the day.

We are excited for the students who will be attending the Raptors 905 basketball game this weekend! We hope they have a fantastic experience!

Looking ahead, our grade 8 volleyball team members will be taking part in a fun and competitive volleyball showdown and long-standing race to win between Mr. Chan and Ms. Mediratta. This lunch-hour event will also serve as a fundraiser for our Grade 8 graduation, with a $1.00 entry fee. Students from Grades 1 to 8 are welcome to watch the first game of the season and hopefully the last once Mr. Chan and the team are defeated!

As we begin the month of April, we recognize both Autism Awareness Month and Sikh Heritage Month. These important observances provide opportunities for learning, reflection, and celebrating the diversity within our school community.

To mark the beginning of Autism Awareness Month, we will be hosting our annual flag raising on Wednesday, April 1st, at 9:40 a.m. Families are warmly invited to join us as we come together to celebrate inclusion, acceptance, and the many ways our students learn and grow.

Thank you for your continued support, and we wish you all a wonderful weekend.

Nutrition program update to share:

We would like to remind families that our nutrition program is intended to provide a small morning snack, not a full meal.

Since returning from March Break, we have noticed that some students are arriving with limited food and are finishing their lunch early in the day and are looking for a more filling option. We kindly ask that students come to school with enough food to support them throughout the day, based on what works best for your family’s routines, preferences, and cultural food choices.

Please also ensure your child has the utensils they need (e.g., spoon or fork), as the office is not always able to provide these items.

Snack Program hours:

  • After 8:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

  • Produce available until 11:00 a.m.

We will always support students when needed; however, we are not able to provide full meals.

Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting student well-being.
