Parking Lot Safety Reminders!
We have had a very cold and also sunny January. Let's hope that February does not bring as much snow and that we have some milder temperatures after this weekend. If you noticed, we had a very large mountain of snow at the entrance of our parking lot that was relocated during the week. The decision to move the snow was a direct response to student safety and also to help drivers who are using our school parking lot to drop off their children or pick them up. With the snow out of the way, we rely on our drivers to make safe decisions that can be reviewed by everyone.
Please remember:
Our bus loop in front of our school is also our emergency lane. Cars should NOT stop or park here at any time. Those who park there should realize they may receive a very expensive ticket from the Vaughan by-law officers because this is a fire zone.
In our bus loop, stopped cars block the entrance or exits, which makes it very difficult for buses to enter and exit. A bus must wait for the cars in front of them before they can continue on their route. They do not go around parked cars. Do not use the bus loop for pickup or drop-off.
Take extra care and caution when driving on Murray Farm Lane and other side streets around the school. Be on the lookout for walking children at all times. Remind your passengers that they should be wearing their seatbelts, even on a short drive home.
We also wanted to take this opportunity to remind all families about being safe and considerate when dropping off and picking up your children.
Do NOT drop off your children while driving through a live lane. The driving lane next to the Kiss and Ride is an unsafe location to stop your car and let your children off. We do not want children walking in between cars or walking into the Kiss and Ride lane. This is absolutely not safe, and staff have been asked to remind families to park their cars or enter the Kiss and Ride lane.
Most importantly, please be considerate. We are working hard to build a school community for our students that is built on care, kindness, and being aware of how actions impact others. We ask you to do the same and remember that the staff wish to start their day and end their day with a smile, and your cooperation is always the best place to start.
Sincerely,
Ms. S. Mediratta
