Principal's Message
Hello Teston Village PS families,
Happy New Year and welcome back! We hope everyone had a joyful and restful winter break. We are excited to start 2026 with you.
This month's character trait is initiative. At TVPS, we encourage acting without needing to be prompted. We strive to take action, eager to do what needs to be done and to take the first step toward achieving our goals. In the coming months, we will be sharing several initiatives at Teston Village, and we’ll keep you informed about upcoming opportunities. We’re always working hard to plan programs and activities for our students and families, and with your participation they can be very successful.
Routines and Reminders:
Students can arrive at school between 8:00am - 8:15am and enter the building. Let's do better and arrive at school on time!
Send a pair of shoes to wear inside school. This is a good time to check your child's shoe size too
Make sure students wear boots outside to play and shoes inside the classroom
Send a water bottle with your child. They can refill it during the day, as needed
Snowpants, a hat, gloves and a scarf help your child stay warm and enjoy recess in the winter
Inclement Weather Day
With winter weather already upon us, please remember that information about our severe weather procedures can be found on the Board website, as well as tips to stay safe and warm during the winter months.
As a reminder that schools are open, even when bus and taxi transportation is canceled. If you are able to bundle up and walk to school, we will be here and ready to receive your children.
Safety with Food and Allergy Awareness
There are children with allergies, especially life threatening allergies in our school. While it is impossible to create a risk-free environment, parents can help by checking what is sent to school for kids to eat.
PLEASE, communicate with us if YOUR child has a life-threatening allergy. Call the school as soon as you are aware of an allergy. Please notify the principal so that we have accurate records and establish the protocol to follow with your child.
If your child has an allergic reaction, we will call the family immediately.
if your child is showing signs or distress or a reaction to anything, we will consult with you and also have to make a decision to contact emergency services
We ask that you DO NOT send any foods that may contain PEANUTS and/or NUTS. Please check the list of ingredients for peanut butter, peanut sauce, peanut oil, mixed nuts, ground nuts, artificial nuts and macadamia nuts. Examples include: cookies, chocolate, granola bars, some cereal bars and some chocolate nut spreads. Avoid products that say “may contain peanut/nuts”.
If you are unsure about a chosen product, please do not send it to school. We thank you for your cooperation.
JANUARY HAS 2 PA DAYS
Schools will be closed for students on both days. NO SCHOOL on Friday, January 16th and Friday, January 30th
On January 16th: Full Day of Professional activities focused on reporting to parents and ongoing communication regarding student achievement and well-being.
Sincerely,
Ms. S. Mediratta

Repeat and Summary of our Dress for the Weather Message:
Students should come dressed appropriately for the weather and for outdoor play. Students can stay warm by wearing layers of loose-fitting clothing, a hat, a scarf, jackets, snow pants, and mittens or gloves. Students may also want to bring extra pants and socks in case they get wet.
Recess
If students are well enough to come to school, they are expected to go outside for recess.
Our students benefit from spending time outside and being active. We monitor weather conditions throughout the day. If there are extreme weather conditions, we may consider a shortened or indoor recess.
Bus or School Cancellations
When an extreme cold or inclement weather day is declared, school transportation (including buses and taxis) is cancelled in the morning and afternoon. Schools will remain open. Please notify the school if your child will not be attending school on those days. Students will not be penalized for missing school on these days.
Board’s Severe Weather Policy
There may be rare instances when emergency weather events occur and we need to close all schools and Board locations. Please take the time to make plans in the event of an emergency school closure. Information about transportation cancellations and Board closures will be shared through local media, Board and school websites and on X @YRDSB. Our process for extreme cold, inclement weather and emergency weather days is outlined in the policy.
