TVPS Update Week #16 - Friday, December 12th, 2025

Principal's Message

Hello Teston Village PS families,

Thank you for another successful week of learning. On Thursday evening, we had the Winter Showcase. We were so pleased to welcome you and to see our students perform with such confidence and joy. Your presence and encouragement meant a great deal to them. We would also like to acknowledge teachers, support staff, caretaking, and volunteers who helped make the show a success! It was a lovely way to begin the holiday season together, and we appreciate your continued support.

Safety during recess is very tricky during the winter months. Many of our students in Grades 4 to 6 are making the best of the winter season and finding ways to keep busy with the grounds covered in snow. However, underneath all that snow we sometimes cannot see the ice that forms and makes for a slippery surface. Here are some regular reminders we offer to students to keep them safe and aware:

  • Wear boots outside, not shoes.

  • Wear snowpants to stay dry and warm

  • Stay away from ice patches to avoid slips and falls

  • DO NOT slide down the icy hill where you can get badly injured

Our Giving Tree is located near the front office and has been beautifully decorated with brand-new mittens, some hats, and hair accessories. To finish our tree, we are looking for pairs of socks! The sizes are from age 8 to 12, and warm socks are appreciated. We are still collecting items until next week, Thursday to hang on the tree.

We can do it!

Finally, we would like to extend our best to community and staff members who celebrate the eight-day holiday of Hannukah, which starts on the eve of Sunday, December 14th. I would like to wish you and your families safe and happy celebration.

Winter Holidays - School Closure.

YRDSB schools will be closed from December 22nd to January 2nd. Schools will reopen on January 5th, 2026.

York Region Public Health Message

YRPH is seeing more student absences due to illness. The flu, stomach flu (norovirus) and the common cold are spreading fast. Please take a moment to review the letter sent home via EDSBY and iNFORM for some tips to stay healthy!  Together, we can keep our kids learning and our schools safe!

Winter Weather Reminder for Recess

If students are well enough to come to school, they are expected to go outside for recess. Our students benefit from spending time outside and being active. We monitor weather conditions throughout the day. If there are extreme weather conditions, we may consider a shortened or indoor recess.

Feeling Sick? A Day of Rest May Be Best!

We have noticed an increase in students coming to school while feeling unwell. If your child is showing signs of illness, we kindly encourage families to consider keeping them home to rest and fully recover. A day of proper rest helps your child return to learning feeling better, and it also supports the health and well-being of their classmates. Thank you for your understanding and for helping us maintain a healthy school environment for everyone.

Lunch & Snack Reminders

To help us maintain a safe and smooth lunchtime routine, please keep the following expectations in mind:

  • Lunch drop-off should arrive by 11:55 a.m. Lunches brought after 12:00 p.m. disrupt routines and means many students are waiting around

  • Nuts are not permitted at school, as they pose a life-threatening allergy risk for some of our students.

  • Nutella sandwiches are not allowed, as they contain hazelnuts.

  • No food sharing: Please remind your child not to share their lunch or snacks with friends. Even when children have kind intentions, this can create safety concerns for others.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us keep all students safe and supported during lunchtime.

Indoor shoes, please!
