Principal's Message
Hello Teston Village PS families,
We hope your children enjoyed another great week at Teston Village. As we move into December, our character trait of the month is empathy. At TVPS, we encourage students to understand and appreciate the feelings of others and to imagine what it means to “stand in someone else’s shoes.”
Students will be reminded to look out for their friends and classmates, include others in play, and support peers who may need a helping hand or someone to talk to. Empathy helps build a strong sense of belonging, and a simple way to show it each day is by choosing kindness.
A Reminder About School Start Times
We would like to remind families about the hours in our school day:
8:00–8:15 a.m. Students are expected to arrive at school
8:15 a.m. Classes begin.
Students who arrive after 8:15 a.m. are considered late. Our day starts promptly with O Canada, morning announcements, and important instructions that help set students up for a successful day of learning. When students arrive late, they miss key parts of the morning routine, including:
birthday announcements
information about team practices, activities, and upcoming events
teacher instructions that launch the first lessons in Math or Language
Early mornings can be tough, especially on darker, colder days. Simple routines like setting an alarm, waking up a bit earlier, and ensuring a good night’s sleep help students start the day ready to learn. Thank you for working with us to reduce lateness and support a smooth start for all students.
Our Parent Council met this week and shared some exciting fundraiser ideas for January. They are looking forward to continued family participation in upcoming events. So far this year, they have organized a Movie Night and weekly popcorn treats for students to enjoy. Thanks to your support, they have raised just over $1,000. This is an amazing accomplishment!
We’re pleased to share that these funds have already been put to good use, with purchases made to support our primary classrooms. We appreciate the ongoing commitment from our families and Parent Council, and we look forward to future initiatives that will continue to enhance learning opportunities across our school.
Sincerely,
Ms. S. Mediratta

Winter Weather: A few important reminders.
Indoor Shoes, please! We are requesting families to leave us a pair of shoes for school. Since the weather has gone cold and wet, your children will need warm boots to wear in the morning and for recess outside.
Recess. If students are well enough to come to school, they are expected to go outside for recess. Our students benefit from spending time outside and being active. We monitor weather conditions throughout the day. If there are extreme weather conditions, we may consider a shortened or indoor recess.
Bus or School Cancellations. When an extreme cold or inclement weather day is declared, school transportation (including buses and taxis) is cancelled in the morning and afternoon. Schools will remain open. Please notify the school if your child will not be attending school on those days. Students will not be penalized for missing school on these days.

A reminder:
indoor shoes to wear when students take off their winter boots
some extra socks in a bag that can stay in the backpack
an extra set of clothes are also helpful for our primary students (pants and a t-shirt)
Remember:
Pack a spoon or fork from home.
No drinks in disposable, take-out, or open-lid cups
Avoid picking up your child between 2:00pm and 2:35pm.
