Principal's Message
As we wrap up the first week of June, we’re so proud of how hard our students have been working and how committed they are to their learning. With just a few weeks left in the school year, we encourage all students to stay positive, keep trying their best, and finish the year strong.
June is Pride Month. On Wednesday morning, we gathered as a school at the flagpole to raise our flag and say a few words. We also invited community members to join us, our CAPC program, and the adult ESL learners. For those who were unable to attend, we have included the short speech below that was shared with all those who attended.
Today, we're gathered to raise the Pride Flag. This flag is a wonderful symbol of our commitment to making Teston Village a place where every student and family feels safe, respected, and truly belongs. When you walk through our doors each day, we want you to know that you are seen for who you are, your voice is heard, and you are included in our school community.
We believe that everyone should feel proud of all their identities, not just here at school, but wherever they go. Raising this flag is our way of celebrating the rich diversity that makes our school and the YRDSB so special. It's about ensuring that every single person in our community feels valued and knows they have a place here.
This moment isn't about asking anyone to change who they are or what they believe. It's simply about our shared responsibility to create a welcoming and affirming environment for everyone. We want every student to feel comfortable being themselves, to thrive, and to know that they are supported every step of the way.
Let's all continue to work together to make Teston Village a place where everyone feels proud to be themselves and helps others to feel that same pride.
This month, our focus is on optimism. At Teston Village, we keep a positive attitude, look on the bright side, and find opportunities even when things get tough. We also hold onto hope for the future. As we begin to look ahead to the end of the school year, it’s a great time to ask your child: “What are you most proud of this year?” and “What are you most looking forward to this summer and when the new school year begins?”
To all those celebrating Eid-ul-Adha, the staff at Teston Village would like to extend our best wishes to you and your families for a happy celebration. To help deepen our understanding and to honour YRDSB’s Diamond Days, please see this Eid-ul-Adha video.
