TVPS Update #37 - May 30th, 2025

Principal's Message

Bike/Roll to School Week

Between June 2nd to 6th, TVPS will be participating in Bike/Roll to School Week. This initiative provides an opportunity for students to try riding or rolling  to school for the first time, learn new skills, connect with others, or have fun exploring the neighbourhood and nature. We encourage students to ride/roll to school. Thank you to the city of Vaughan who visited this week and handed out many prizes and provided good information about road safety and a bike demonstration to our Grade 4 students.

This month our focus is on courage.

This week, we’re continuing our conversation by looking at how courage plays a role in being honest—even when it’s hard. At TVPS, we believe that telling the truth, especially in tough situations, is a powerful way to show courage and care for others.

Being honest might mean admitting a mistake, telling a friend when something they said was hurtful, or standing by someone who’s going through a hard time—even if it feels uncomfortable. It’s not always easy, but when we’re truthful and kind, we build trust and show others they can count on us.

For our parents, we encourage you to talk with your children about moments when honesty was difficult and how they felt afterward. Remind them that being a good friend sometimes means having hard conversations—and that telling the truth with kindness is a brave and important act. We’re proud to be part of a school where honesty and friendship go hand in hand and where courage means doing what’s right, even when it’s not easy.

Please read below to find out what happened this week as well as upcoming events.

Have a lovely weekend!

Pride Month
Join us on Wednesday, June 4th, at 9:45am as we raise our pride flag at Teston Village. Our school will participate and meet outside the flagpole to affirm that we are an inclusive school where we all belong and are valued.

June is Pride Month, an opportunity for schools to celebrate diversity in our communities and uplift the voices, accomplishments, and activism of 2SLGBTQIA+ people. While diverse identities and ways of being have always existed, much of the world has specifically celebrated Pride Month in June since 1969. YRDSB is unwavering in its ongoing commitment to providing identity-affirming education in all schools, recognizing that 2SLGBTQIA+ students, families, and allies are in every classroom. It is the expectation of the York Region District School Board that 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusive and affirming education is taking place year-round in all classes to ensure all students learn about gender identity, homophobia, and transphobia, as well as the contributions and lives of 2SLGBTQIA+ people.
